Researchers find that focusing on nutrition helps to change lifestyle behaviors and reduces health care spending. They also found that using nutritional supplements can improve health effectively. Nearly 66% of all illnesses can be attributed to lifestyle factors. This has prompted more employers to turn to wellness programs to control the costs of employee health care.
Research shows that wellness programs are an effective way to improve employees’ health. Dr. Roy J. Shepard of the University of Toronto reports in the medical journal The Physician and Sports Medicine that, on average, employees who participate regularly in corporate fitness programs lose 13 percent of body fat. The Canadian Life Assurance Company found that turnover among fitness program participants was 32.4% lower over a seven-year period compared with non-participants.
